Project Summary

Whole-home hardwood floor refinishing in Ashland, MA — all floors sanded, stained with a custom dark stain, and finished throughout. The staircase was refinished to match, with treads sanded and stained to the same custom color and risers and trim painted white.

The full interior was repainted as part of the same project — walls, ceilings, trim, and window casings throughout. Cabinet painting was included in the kitchen. The before photos show the floors after sanding, prior to stain application.

Project Highlights

Custom stain color

The stain was mixed to a custom dark tone — richer than off-the-shelf options — to complement the white trim and walls throughout the home. Getting the color right before committing to the full floor is the most important step in any refinishing project.

Staircase continuity

Matching the staircase treads to the floor stain requires careful sanding and multiple test passes. The goal is a seamless transition from the landing to the stairs so the whole floor reads as one continuous surface.

Painting sequenced with floors

Interior painting was sequenced around the floor work — walls and ceilings painted before final floor coats, trim and cabinets painted after. This avoids overspray on fresh finish and keeps the final coat clean.

Cabinet painting in the kitchen

The kitchen cabinets were painted white as part of the same project, tying the kitchen into the freshly painted and refinished interior. Benjamin Moore Advance was used for its hard, durable finish on cabinet surfaces.

Common Questions

How long does hardwood floor refinishing take in a whole home?

A whole-home refinishing project typically takes 4–7 days depending on square footage, number of coats, and dry time between coats. The home needs to be vacated during sanding and for at least 24–48 hours after each finish coat.

Can you match a custom stain color?

Yes. We mix stain to a custom color based on sample boards tested on your actual floor species. The color can look different on red oak vs. white oak, so we always test before committing to the full floor.

Do you refinish staircases to match the floors?

Yes. Staircase treads are sanded and stained to match the floor stain. Risers and trim are painted to match the interior paint color. We sequence the staircase work with the floor work so both finish at the same time.

What does floor refinishing cost in Ashland, MA?

Floor refinishing is priced by square footage, number of rooms, staircase count, and prep required. Whole-home projects are quoted after a site visit or photo review. Send photos and a description of the scope for an initial estimate.

Do you combine floor refinishing with interior painting?

Yes — combining both services in one project is more efficient and produces a cleaner result. We sequence the work so painting is done before final floor coats, which keeps the finish clean and avoids touch-ups.
