About This Project

This Dover living room had an unused alcove on each side of the fireplace — perfect for custom built-in bookcases. We built floor-to-ceiling units with adjustable shelves above and cabinet bases below, all painted to match the existing trim.

What Made This Project Successful

Built to the ceiling

We build our bookcases to the ceiling and add crown molding at the top — this eliminates the awkward gap above freestanding bookcases and makes the units look truly built-in.

Adjustable shelves

All shelves are adjustable on shelf pins, allowing the homeowner to reconfigure the layout as their needs change.

Frequently Asked Questions
