There are several options for preparing walls and floors before installing tile. Walls can be made of cement board or drywall, but a waterproofer must be used with drywall. The traditional method for installing tiled shower assemblies involves a system that allows water to enter and exit. This system includes a sloped mortar bed, a waterproofing membrane (pan liner), and weep holes in the drain. Pan liners are available in different materials or can be custom-made using a dry pack mortar bed.
To level out uneven wood or concrete subfloors, we use a self-leveling compound. Before pouring the compound, we seal any holes or gaps with caulk and then spread the compound evenly across the floor using a trowel. Once it has dried, we check the floor again to ensure it is level. If there is any excess compound, we will sand it down until the floor is perfectly flat.
After preparing the floor and walls for tile installation, the next step is to arrange the tiles in a suggested pattern, also known as a layout. This is done to make sure that the final product matches your expectations. Once the layout is approved, we apply thinset to the surface, and use leveling spacers if necessary, to ensure the surface is completely flat and durable.
We use Premium Grout products that produce the most color uniform and accurate grout available today, which now has even better stain resistance and non-sag performance, especially for vertical installations. Premium Grout not only provides excellent performance benefits, but it also has outstanding workability features that inhibits the growth of mold and mildew into the grout, thanks to its anti-microbial protection.
It is important to allow new grout to fully cure before sealing it, even if it looks hard. This is because excess moisture needs time to evaporate in order to achieve the correct color. For older grout, it should be thoroughly cleaned before being left to dry. During this time, it is important to protect the grout from spills and stains, as sealing in dirt instead of keeping it out can happen if not properly protected.
To keep your tile floors looking good and damage-free, clean up dirt and spills as soon as possible with a mild soap and water mixture and a damp cloth. Also, keep your pet's nails trimmed to avoid damage from their claws.
